How It Works

PhoneFactor can be seamlessly integrated with cloud services to enable strong out-of-band authentication for user logins. PhoneFactor offers a number of integration options for rapid implementation and maximum flexibility, including:

• Direct Integration with Cloud Applications
  PhoneFactor can be enabled by cloud application vendors using PhoneFactor’s built-in support for Internet Information Server (IIS), web plug-ins (Java, .Net, PHP, Perl, and Ruby), or its web services SDK. All of these methods allow vendors to integrate PhoneFactor with their application’s existing authentication workflow. After the application completes the primary authentication, a request is sent to the PhoneFactor service, which places an automated phone call or sends a text message to the user to verify the login.

• Support for SAML
  PhoneFactor also offers support for SAML, the standard which Google Apps, SalesForce.com and most other cloud services utilize for communicating identity information in the cloud. When configured for SAML, PhoneFactor serves as the identity provider to the cloud service. The authentication process is delegated to PhoneFactor, which checks the user credentials against the company’s existing user directory. If the credentials match, PhoneFactor places an automated phone call or sends a text message to the user to verify the login. This provides seamless federated two-factor authentication.

PhoneFactor’s hybrid service architecture allows organizations to store all critical user data within their infrastructure while leveraging the high-scale PhoneFactor Service to place authentication calls, send text messages, and communicate with the PhoneFactor App. The PhoneFactor Service is supported by a network of redundant data centers and telecommunications providers ensuring the highest level of availability.
