September 16, 2009 – PhoneFactor, a leading provider of two-factor authentication services, today announced that GSI, provider of specialized managed hosting products and services, has selected its phone authentication technology to secure client access to GSI’s management portal.
GSI provides Fortune 500 companies with customized, secure, and reliable hosting products and services. They also offer specialized services that focus on regulated, high security hosting and e-commerce hosting which require specific compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
To maintain these standards, it is critical that access to GSI’s client portal be secured with two-factor authentication. Many solutions they investigated, like security tokens, were costly and cumbersome for their clients and their internal IT staff.
“The main driver for us was the cost and management overhead associated with two-factor token solutions,” said Ed Welsh, Director, Security and Compliance. “A secondary driver was the number of two-factor tokens that end users have to deal with. In some cases, we have clients carrying five tokens for access to the various services they use. Adding another security token for them to deal with was burdensome to say the least.”
PhoneFactor’s ease of use for both clients and IT staff made it the best solution for GSI. After implementing PhoneFactor within their customer portal, utilization will expand to secure file transfer and VPN connectivity.
