eWeek: RSA SecurID Breach Shakes Confidence in Token-Based Authentication

After RSA’s recent security breach IT professionals have started looking towards alternative two-factor authentication methods to secure their company’s data. According to a recent PhoneFactor survey, 44 percent of IT professionals who are aware of the RSA data breach are now re-evaluating the security of token-based authentication solutions.

The survey results are consistent with forecasts by leading analysts who predict a continued decline in the use of hardware tokens for authentication and an increased reliance on phone-based methods. Gartner, Inc. expects that that by year-end 2013, fewer than 10% of all authentication events will involve discrete, specialized authentication hardware of any kind
