Tim Sutton, CEO & Co-Founder

Mr. Sutton co-founded PhoneFactor (formerly Positive Networks) in 2001 after 17 years of experience in the software and telecommunications industries.

Most recently, Mr. Sutton was the President of the Broadband Wireless Group at Sprint, where he led the development and rollout of Sprint’s high-speed fixed wireless services. Considered an industry pioneer, Mr. Sutton was the keynote speaker at the annual Wireless Communications Association show in 2000, served on the Board of Directors of Hybrid Networks, and has served as an advisor to several technology companies in the wireless industry.

Before leading the Sprint broadband wireless business, Mr. Sutton was Vice President of Technology Strategy and Corporate Development at Sprint. In this capacity he led numerous initiatives, including the initial technology selection for Sprint PCS, which has subsequently evolved into a $9 billion enterprise with 15 million subscribers, the strategic acquisition of 28% of EarthLink Networks, and the series of acquisitions through which Sprint obtained wireless spectrum in the MMDS band covering almost one-third of the US population in over 90 markets.

Mr. Sutton was also the co-founder and Chief Executive of Torus Systems, Inc., a pioneering creator and distributor of the Tapestry brand of LAN operating systems in the mid-1980s. Torus Tapestry was widely distributed throughout the world from 1985-1991, was a winner of numerous U.S. Department of Defense contracts, and was selected by IBM as the LAN operating system for distribution throughout Europe from 1985-1987.

From 1982 to 1983 Mr. Sutton was an Associate for Strategic Planning Associates, based in Washington, D.C., where he provided corporate strategy consulting for a variety of Fortune 500 clients.

Mr. Sutton graduated with distinction from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, and is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management with a Master of Science degree in Management.
